The Way the story goes
HISTORy
For many centuries, the name Trautz has been closely associated with the gold city of Pforzheim, the Nagold Valley and the Black Forest. The family history can be traced back to the 16th century, and the traditional coat of arms with anchor and fishermen’s symbols shows the family’s former affiliation to the rafting guild of the Black Forest.
In 1650, Hans Georg Trautz was already Schultheiß (mayor) and a raftsman on the Nagold. Today, a monument stands in his honour in the picturesque village of Dillstein near Pforzheim. In 1722, the mayor as well as customs and raft master Christoph Trautz built the ‘Goldener Anker’ inn in Dillstein, which still exists
today. Christoph Trautz was one of the founders of the first raftsman company in the Enz-Nagold area, which worked for the Dutch timber trade.
In the course of the decline of rafting, the Trautz family was first referred to as a bijoutier (jewellery manufacturer) in the 18th century. The name has stood for high-quality jewellery from Pforzheim since.
